Does Fashion Exist Without the Visual?
Can fashion be perceived only through touch, sound, or smell?
Vision accounts for most of our perception of the surrounding world, with about 80 percent of human perception being visual. Fashion objects are usually perceived through visual experience, but there is a group of people who perceive fashion through touch, smell, and sound.
The exhibition presents an artistic project aimed at reducing the gap between the blind and the sighted, promoting the accessibility of art through non-visual fashion objects. In this space, vision does not have an advantage – all objects are perceived through other senses, using imagination and memory.
Exploring the differences and similarities between the senses of visually impaired and sighted people allowed for the creation of unique materials that most enhance the experiences of both groups. From these materials, objects, sounds, smells, and garments were created.
The exhibition aims to give individuals with visual impairments the opportunity to equally explore fashion, while also helping the sighted rediscover the benefits and richness of sensory experiences.
